This month at The George in Rye, we're looking at how to get around in style.

In particular, for Fathers' Day on Sunday 17th June we're offering two excursions which take travel up a notch. If you have a father who thinks he could be the next Lindbergh, then our partnership with Lydd Aero Club could suit. Just a few miles away from The George in Rye, you'll be able to have your own beginner's flying lesson in a small Cessna or Piper Warrior aircraft. Following a full-flight briefing and take-off, you will have the opportunity to take over the flying of the plane under the pupilage of a highly qualified pilot. Meanwhile, the rest of the you can put your feet up and relax with a glass or two at the Club House.

If you'd rather stay on the ground, we have teamed up with Classic Touring to offer self-drive Classic Car hire. Many of the greats are available, with a '65 Bentley S3, a '66 Jaguar E Type roadster and a '72 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow among them. Classic Touring will deliver the car to right to The George in Rye's front door, and you can keep it for the duration of your stay. There's probably no better way to leisurely explore the Sussex coastline.

Both flying lessons and Classic Car hire are available as part of our midweek break (Sunday - Thursday), which offers two nights' stay, dinner, bed and breakfast. If you'd like to arrange a spectacular Fathers' day including either of these opportunities, please follow either link above.

Moving on to the equally important business of eating, our head chef Rod Grossmann has brought in an early summer menu which is begging to be enjoyed in our courtyard garden. Rod's food draws influences from right across Spain, Italy and Provence, and his new dishes include Stir fried cuttlefish with herb butter and chilli aioli, Roasted red gurnard with sweet peppers and rosemary potatoes, and a real show-stopper to finish: homemade Champagne sorbet. You can see the new menu in full here.

Next month we'll be telling you why English wine is giving the French a run for their money...

Best Wishes

Alex and Katie Clarke
