Hotel Reviews

  • The period features have been lovingly restored and the low-beamed ceilings, panelled walls and grand fireplace in the lounge create a warm and inviting space to relax. There are 24 individually designed bedrooms upstairs, each filled with sumptuous bed linen and fluffy pillows, while the luxurious bathrooms feature marble-top baths, chrome power showers and Aveda products. The hotel bar and restaurant on the ground floor are popular. Head chef Rod Grossmann once worked at Moro in London, and his Mediterranean-inspired menus offer fresh seasonal ingredients sourced from local farms and seafood from Rye Bay.

  • Stayed here for my 40th birthday with my husband and 7 year old daughter. Loved it to bits. The room was very comfortable with lovely decor. The bed was so comfortable and even my daughter said her Z bed was as good as her bed at home! The bathroom was lovely and the shower was excellent.
Didn't have dinner but the breakfast was delicious with every attention to detail. The service here was good, very friendly with nice attention paid to my daughter. In fact all the staff were great and very helpful. Great location and would love to go back sometime.

  • My Husband and I have just returned from a wonderful New Year's Eve stay at the George. From the minute we walked through the door to the time we left we felt at home in the place. The decor is warm and tasteful with added quirky twists. From the paint colours, wallpapers, carpets to the lamp shades, every item is carefully put together to create a very unique interior. The bar is again a very chilled affair because of the great local bitter, warm log fire, extremely comfy sofas and very lovely staff who served us a fab lunch (& dinner & brunch! yes we ate a lot) we didn't want to leave. Our bedroom was a bit on the small side but it didn't seem to matter as everything was of the highest quality. The antique furniture was set off by the very modern part abstract wallpaper, finest quality white linen and the sofest duvet made getting up in the morning very difficult. The little touches like bottles of water, real coffee and fresh milk make it home from home, I was espically taken with the leather coasters. The shower in the bathroom is fab as are the yummy aveda products. All in all I couldn't recommend it highly enough we shall diffently be back.

  • Could be the best small hotel in England. Stunning. Beautiful. Friendly. Modern. Clean. Comfortable. Wonderful food and drink. Location is fantastic. Bathroom, bed, even the TV is top drawer. Only wish we could have stayed another night. Again, this might be the best small hotel in England. Don't miss it. ps. Try the flame grilled spicy sausage with a pint in their WONDERFUL on-site pub. Stunning!!!

  • I highly recommend this hotel which is ideally located in the center of town. The reception staff are friendly and the rooms are spacious. I particularly enjoyed the bar area which is comfortable and inviting you to relax by the fire place. I think that this hotel is good value for money.

  • It is a hotel for "the raffish, languid and marvellous". What a lovely relaxed atmosphere there is in here. For my main course I have chosen a roast whole sea bream, which comes with just the right amount of saffron fondant potato and braised leeks. My husband is impressed with the oxtail, served with buttery mashed potato and green curly kale. "The meat's just falling off the bone," he says, "and there aren't any inappropriate things with it." Afterwards, we even find room for a chocolate, almond and Armagnac cake and a tarte au citron without feeling either bloated or guilty.

  • The hotel now has real "wow-factor".

  • The rooms have been decorated in neutral shades, enlivened with splashes of colour and decked out with plasma TVs, Tivoli radios and "funky" lighting, embroidered silk cushions and prints by local artisits. With wooden beams fashioned from 16th-century ships' masts and handsome 1930s panelling, the bar has a life of its own, with a great range of real ales, ciders and wines.

  • Escape to Jane Austen's England at The George in the quaint town of Rye. A coaching inn since 1575, it has hosted three King Georges (I, II & IV); the Georgian Ballroom boasts hand-painted chinoiserie by 18th-century specialists De Gournay, who papered Kiera Knightley's bedroom in "Pride and Predudice".
