Baker break at The George in Rye

Baker break at The George in Rye

Lighthouse BakeryGet ready to put your apron on and dust down your hands with flour...together with the Lighthouse Bakery, an award-winning shop and bakery school near Rye, The George in Rye is offering a Baker Break. Afterwards you'll never buy a Sliced White again, and will be able to fill your home with the lovely smell of baking bread.

The Lighthouse Bakery was founded in 2000 in South London by Rachel Duffield and Elizabeth Weisberg. Their artisinal bread has won many plaudits and there was always a queue round the block from people desperate to get their hands on the best croissants, sourdough and baguettes in town. Luckily for us, they moved the bakery to East Sussex last year.

Set in nearby Robertsbridge and with envious views of Bodiam Castle, The Lighthouse Bakery houses a shop and bakery school. Here you can make the most of the many hands-on classes, which give you the skills and confidence to make a loaf and understand what makes bread 'work'.

You'll have the pick of the bakery's one day courses, which all include course notes, the day's recipes, home-made lunch, a Lighthouse Bakery School Apron, and most importantly, the bread you've made to take home! Courses are priced from £165 per person, payable direct to the Lighthouse Bakery.

Courses Include:
Introduction to Baking - learn how to make a loaf from scratch
