Classic Car Package at The George in Rye

For lovers of the road, we have teamed up with Classic Touring to offer self-drive classic car hire during your stay at The George in Rye. With the finest classic car fleet in the area, we have profiled some below, including the 1963 Jaguar E-type Roadster or the 1959 Triumph TR3A. A great way to explore the coastal and winding country roads of Sussex and Kent.

When you collect your chosen car you will be issued with instructions for the car explaining starting, choke, hood operation, etc. All cars are covered with the AA and carry first aid kits. Classic Touring guarantee its cars are professionally-serviced and maintained and is a Member of the Historic & Classic Car Hirers' Guild who are dedicated to providing high standards of quality and service within the industry.

Your classic car can be picked up from our premises near Tunbridge Wells while your own car is securely garaged for the duration of the hire. Alternatively, you can be collected and dropped free of charge from the Tunbridge Wells mainline station which runs to Charing Cross, London. An additional charge of £50 is made to drop and collect the car directly to Rye. Package rates start from £405 per person for a 2 night stay including dinner, bed and breakfast.     A truly great classic 4-seater convertible, recently made more known, by its starring role with Stephen Fry in the BBC's drama "Kingdom". This is the only Alvis available for self-drive hire in the UK.

    Mercedes Benz 280 SL 1970 (Group A)

    Good clean German design, easy to drive with easily operated hood. It has a straight six cylinder engine with a four speed automatic gearbox and has reasonable boot space. This car has the benefit of a hard top for the cooler times of year.

  • Jaguar E Type

    Jaguar E Type Series I Convertible 3.8 1963 (Grp B)

    To many people, the ultimate Jaguar and British sports car. It has a basic understated interior and beautiful aluminum dash. The brakes have been upgraded with Coopercraft calliper system, making it a pleasure to drive even with the slightly primitive Moss gearbox.

    Jaguar XK 150S, 3.4 (OTS) 1957 (Group B)

    A true great of the 50s British sports cars, with an exhaust note to keep you awake. It has a racing clutch, and once on the open road, gives a glorious drive.

  • Austin Healey 3000 MKIII

    Austin Healey 3000 MKIII Convertible 1965 (Grp A)

    This classic car is easy to drive, with a nice gearbox, it's more fun on A and B roads rather than motorways, although it has an overdrive. 4 speed manual with overdrive with black leather interior. This classic car was totally restored in 1992, with the engine again being rebuilt in 1998.

  • Bentley SIII 1964 (Grp A)

    This is a large car, and once you get used to the size, with the bonnet stretching far ahead, and a lot of car appearing in the wing mirrors, it really is an easy car to drive. Just sit and let this car glide you in comfort and style to your destination. 6230cc V8 engine with 4 speed automatic gearbox and power steering.

The classic car package is made up as follows....
