Gardens Sussex Kent

Gardens' Package at The George in Rye

As we enter Spring, we can enjoy the incredible public gardens within short reach of The George. We like to think that East Sussex, not Kent, deserves the title The Garden of England, as the county is full of the loveliest gardens there are - from the dramatic and panoramic, to hidden wildflower meadows and woodlands carpeted with bluebells. Our Gardens' package includes 2 nights' discounted midweek accommodation, dinner on one night at the hotel as well as tickets to a selection of world class gardens featured below:

  • Great Dixter Gardens Sussex

    Great Dixter Gardens

East Sussex boasts perhaps the most famous garden in England - Great Dixter.  Home of late gardener and writer Christopher Lloyd, Dixter is daring and experimental, but always elegant. Even if you know absolutely nothing about gardens, you'll enjoy wandering between all the different parts of the grounds,  each with its own striking identity.  You can see a pictoral tour on the Great Dixter website. Garden closed Monday except Bank Holidays.

  • Pashley Manor Gardens Sussex

    Pashley Manor Gardens

The eleven-acre gardens offer a sumptuous blend of romantic landscaping, imaginative planting and fine old trees, fountains, springs and large ponds. This is a quintessentially English garden of a very individual character, with exceptional views to the surrounding valleyed fields. Many eras of English history are reflected here, typifying the tradition of the English country house and its garden. Link to their website for further information.

  • Sissinghurst Castle Garden Kent

    Sissinghurst Castle Garden

Sissinghurst Castle Garden is one of the world's most famous 20th-century gardens. It is the creation of the writer and poet Vita Sackville-West and her husband, diplomat and writer, Harold Nicolson. The garden is made up of 10 distinct 'garden rooms' each with a different feel. For example the Lime Walk, designed for spring effect, the Cottage Garden using only hot colours, reds, oranges and yellows and the White Garden, with its many shades of white, greys and greens, all of which have been such an influence on gardening in the 20th century. Link to their website for further information.

  • Merriments Gardens Sussex

    Merriments Gardens

Created during the early 1990's, the garden at Merriments has quickly developed into a stunningly beautiful 4 acres of densely planted borders where the plants grown in the nursery can be seen in a garden context. Colour is used with great care and precision and identical plants can be seen around the garden within different combinations. Link to their website for further information.
